One-channel video installation, silent, 52s looped; projector and barbell plates


This video installation examines masculinity, limitation, violence, safety, algorithms, and the Manosphere using footage from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2003). In the work, the protagonist swims endlessly beyond the game’s map, where the ocean repeats infinitely—producing the illusion of progress while trapping the player in a loop.

This algorithmic entrapment parallels the endless scroll of short-form media that circulates hegemonic masculinity online. The work references “the Man Box,” a concept from the Oakland Men’s Project describing the constraints placed on acceptable male behavior. The projector sits atop a stack of barbell plates matching the artist’s current bench-press limit. Though his physical strength may change, the image remains fixed: a man swimming endlessly toward escape from a violent system that cannot be left.
